Colorado Avalanche Retain Coaching Staff for 2026-27 Season

The Colorado Avalanche have confirmed that their coaching staff will remain unchanged for the 2026-27 NHL season. During a season-ending press conference, president of hockey operations and interim general manager Joe Sakic announced that head coach Jared Bednar will continue to lead the team, along with his assistants. Sakic expressed confidence in Bednar, stating, "He’s the best coach for our team." This decision comes after a season where the Avalanche achieved a franchise-best 121 points and secured the Presidents' Trophy. Despite a disappointing playoff exit against the Vegas Golden Knights, the front office remains confident in Bednar's ability to guide the team moving forward. The coaching staff, including power play coach Dave Hakstol, will work to improve the team's performance, particularly in areas like the power play, which finished 27th in the regular season. Bednar is in the final year of his contract, but discussions regarding an extension may occur later in the summer as the team focuses on the upcoming draft and free agency.
